Many of these laid off workers cannot find a new job. For those people unable to jump back into another job, it can be a tough financial situation. The bills and rent still need to be paid even if you are out of a job without any income. In order to help people who were laid off through no fault of their own, the government gives these people unemployment benefits. Unemployment benefits are funded by employers through taxes.

Unemployment compensation can range depending on how much you were paid on your last job. You will not get the same amount of money you made when you were working. The purpose of unemployment benefits is to pay for basic necessities and tide you over until you find a new job. Once you have found out that you are about to be laid off from your job, you should quickly go apply for unemployment benefits. The whole process could take a few weeks before you get an unemployment check.

To apply for unemployment you can either go down to their office or you can do it online. You will need to show evidence of your employment at your last job and how long you were there. You can do this buy bringing pay stubs and W2 forms. The unemployment agency will also need to call your former employer to verify that you were laid off due to cutbacks and not because of your own fault.

Normally unemployment benefits last for several weeks, but in a recession, the government usually extends the benefits. You can check with the unemployment office to find out how long the benefits will last. While you are receiving benefits, you have to report to them of your ongoing job search efforts. Keep a record of jobs that you applied to and jobs that you have interviewed for.

Privacy Policy

This website/blog uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads when visiting this site.
